President's Report

Happy New Year, ASPE Seattle Members,

I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays!

January is a chance to reset and restart with renewed energy and hope for an even better future.

I am looking forward to many things this year with our Chapter. We have exciting monthly classes for January, February, April and May already set up. If you have suggestions or want to offer a presentation we are now booking for next year.  Please reach out to our VP Tech, April Ricketts, who is already busy setting up next year’s webinars.

March is our annual Product Show and again we are co-hosting with ASHRAE Puget Sound. This will be very exciting and we should have some good presentations that speak to both plumbing and HVAC subjects earlier the same afternoon.  The signup link for exhibitors is already live.  Go to our meetings home page and register now.

The date is March 18, 2026 at the Renaissance Hotel.

If you missed last month’s meeting, I introduced Gail McGehee, who will be our Women of ASPE Leader for the Seattle Chapter this year.  We are glad to have her on board, so be looking out for her upcoming announcements and what she is planning.

We are looking forward to another successful meeting this month. On behalf of the Seattle ASPE Board, we sincerely wish you good health and much success in the new year. Thank you for your continued participation, and we look forward to seeing you at upcoming meetings.

Best regards,

Linda

VP Technical Report

January Greetings!

Thank you to everyone who attended last month’s Chapter Meeting.  We had incredible attendance (the highest I’ve seen since being part of the Seattle Chapter).  Many thanks to Dave Price and Nick Flusher for a fantastic presentation.

Our new year starts off with another general meeting.  Harini Vuggina with the Rogers Machinery Company will be the January presenter and will speaking on “Designing Compressed Air Systems”.  I hope that you all can make it.

As a member of the ASPE Technical and Research Committee, I am currently helping out with the pre-review the upcoming ASPE Handbook Volume 2.  I’ve reviewed other handbooks in the past and enjoy doing it as well as interacting with others reviewing the publications.  ASPE is always looking for volunteers to participate in the various committees. If you think you might be interested in participating in the T&R committee and have any questions on what is involved, please let me know.

We are fast approaching the annual ASPE Seattle/ASHRAE Puget Sound Chapters Product Show.  I am still looking for a speaker/topic for the joint ASPE Seattle/ASHRAE Puget Sound chapters Product Show in March.  If you have any good topic ideas that will appeal to both ASPE and ASHRAE chapters, please let me know.

Have a Happy New Year…and welcome to 2026!

Until Next Time…

VP Legislative Report

Hello ASPE Seattle,

Welcome to 2026! There has not been much movement in the adoption of 2024 plumbing codes for WA State or City of Seattle. We will continue to keep you updated as new information becomes available.

Public Health Seattle/King County’s new Permit Center is now up and running. There have been a few instances reported of issues logging in and accessing prior permits or requesting inspections, but for the most part those issues have been able to be resolved in relatively short order. Accessing permit records and submitting plans for projects that were applied for in the old system can be less than intuitive. PHSKC staff are able to help customers navigate these nuances as they arise. When applying for permits in the new system (whether plan reviewed or not), the overall workflow should be somewhat smoother. Public Health would like to express their appreciation for everyone’s patience during the ongoing transition.

See you again soon,

-DP

Women of ASPE Report

We have a new leader for our Women of ASPE Seattle Group.  Up until now I have been the Region 4 Liaison and Committee member for the greater NW area, but each chapter also has a WOA representative to help lead local events.  I am pleased to announce that Ms. Gail McGehee has volunteered to take this on, so please join me in welcoming her aboard.

I’m excited to share that I will be stepping into the role of Women of ASPE (WOA) Leader this year. In addition to this position, I serve as the Technical Manager for Viega, supporting projects throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be more involved with the Seattle chapter, connect with more members, and help continue building a strong community for women and allies in plumbing and mechanical design.

Throughout the year, I’ll be coordinating WOA events, networking opportunities, and educational engagements so keep an eye out for upcoming announcements. I also plan to visit local offices and connect with teams directly to share WOA updates and encourage involvement, and I look forward to meeting many of you during those visits.

I welcome ideas, collaboration, and feedback as we shape the year ahead. I’m truly looking forward to supporting this group, hosting meaningful events, and getting to know more of you along the way.

Thank you for welcoming me into this role if you have ideas, event suggestions, or would like to get involved, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m looking forward to a great year together with WOA.

Best,

Gail McGehee
