President's Report

Greetings ASPE Seattle Members,

I hope everyone is well and staying healthy throughout the winter months.

I am just returning back from the AHR Expo in Las Vegas, which always has a good mix of HVAC and plumbing products on display.  It was a great chance to see new innovations, network and spend some time in the sun.

March is our annual Product Show  which is like a mini version of the AHR Expo, and again we are teaming up with ASHRAE Puget Sound to provide a great variety of products for you to see first hand. This will be very exciting and we should have some good presentations that speak to both plumbing and HVAC subjects earlier the same afternoon.  The signup link for exhibitors is already live.  Go to our meetings home page and register now.

The date is March 18, 2026 at the Renaissance Hotel.

We are going to have a drawing for those who attend which will comp the winner for a trip to the ASPE Convention later this year.  More details to come!

We are looking forward to another successful meeting this month. On behalf of the Seattle ASPE Board, we sincerely wish you good health and much success. Thank you for your continued participation, and we look forward to seeing you at upcoming meetings.

Best regards,

Linda

VP Technical Report

February Greetings!

Thank you to everyone who attended last month’s Chapter Meeting on compressed air systems.

We hope that you can attend the upcoming February 11th Chapter Meeting.  Dave Stark and Harry Hasebe, with Mitsubishi Chemical America, will be presenting on “Rainwater Harvesting and New Type of Water Storage (FRP Panel Tank)”.

Next month (March 18th) is the annual ASPE Seattle/ASHRAE Puget Sound Chapter Product Show.  The technical presentation will run from 3:PM to 4 and the Product Show starts at 4:PM…so save the date!

I am still looking for a speaker/topic for the joint ASPE Seattle/ASHRAE Puget Sound chapters Product Show.  If you have any good topic ideas that will appeal to both ASPE and ASHRAE chapters, please let me know.

Until Next Time…

VP Legislative Report

Hello ASPE Seattle,

The biggest thing happening right now on the legislative front is preparing for the 2024 codes. Checking the SBCC website, it appears the CR102 for the 2024 Washington State Energy Code is set to be filed later this month. A public comment period will follow. This will be the first opportunity to really get an idea of what the 2024 code will look like in context. You can review proposed amendments here if you’re interested (there are quite a few).

The same CR-102 filing date applies to the IFGC and UPC. With any luck, we should be able to better prepare for what’s coming over the next 1-2 months. The 2024 codes were set to become effective state-wide late in 2026, but this could be pushed depending on how various hearings turn out. The legislative process is not always predictable. Discussions about City of Seattle code change proposals is already taking place within various stakeholder groups. Ideally, the 2024 Seattle codes effective date will match the State’s. What that final date will be is anyone’s guess at this point.

More to follow,

-DP

Women of ASPE Report

We have a new leader for our Women of ASPE Seattle Group.  Up until now I have been the Region 4 Liaison and Committee member for the greater NW area, but each chapter also has a WOA representative to help lead local events.  I am pleased to announce that Ms. Gail McGehee has volunteered to take this on, so please join me in welcoming her aboard.

Hi Everyone,

I was lucky enough to get a chance to go to the AHR Expo, and it is always so energizing to spend time with people who are excited about what they do and where our industry is headed. Seeing the amount of growth, innovation, and collaboration happening right now is a great reminder of why community matters so much in this space. It also made me even more excited about the connections we have here in Seattle and the opportunity to continue building a strong, engaged WOA presence locally. I had a wonderful chance to meet with the President Elect for our local ASHRAE Chapter and am excited to plan some events with them in the future.

Looking ahead to the first quarter, I’m working on plans for a WOA happy hour and other opportunities to connect in a more relaxed setting. While details are still coming together, we’re excited about what’s ahead — please stay tuned for updates and announcements as plans are finalized.

Best,

Gail McGehee
