April 2026 Greetings to ASPE Seattle

Dear ASPE Seattle Members,

Spring is here, and with it comes a fresh sense of possibility and growth. As Ralph Waldo Emerson beautifully expressed, “The earth laughs in flowers.” We hope this season brings you renewed enthusiasm and inspiration, as longer days and blooming landscapes invite us all to embrace new beginnings.

March Product Show: An Exciting Partnership

We were thrilled to host the annual Product Show, which took place in partnership with ASHRAE Puget Sound. This event is always a highlight of our calendar, bringing together professionals from across the plumbing and HVAC industries to connect, learn, and celebrate innovation.

STEAM Event

On Thursday evening, March 26, 2026, we attended a STEAM event at Federal Way High School. In the past, hundreds of students, K-12, and their parents stopped by to learn more about plumbing and engineering.  With more than 150 booths hosted by STEAM partners and FWPS schools, along with workshops, demonstrations, and interactive experiences, every space in the building offered something new to explore. From construction and coding to virtual reality college tours and colorful science experiments, the event connected classroom learning to real-world opportunities and future careers.

Thank You and Well Wishes

We deeply appreciate your continued participation and support of the ASPE Seattle Chapter. Your enthusiasm and engagement make our events successful and our community vibrant. On behalf of the Seattle ASPE Board, we wish you a joyful spring season and look forward to seeing you at our next get together!

Warm regards,

Linda Burman, Seattle ASPE President

VP Technical Report

April Greetings!

Thank you all for making last month’s joint ASPE Seattle Chapter/ASHRAE Puget Sound Chapter Product Show and technical presentation a great success!  I was not able to attend, but I have been getting some positive feedback from those who did.

This month’s presentation will be on “Emergency Water Supplies for Healthcare” by Brian Soderham with Water Control Corporation.  It is sure to be a great meeting so please sign up and tell your friends to sign up, too.  Here is his bio:

Brian is President of WCC, also known as Water Control Corporation, based in Ramsey, Minnesota.  He has a B.A. from Kalamazoo College and an MBA from the University of Minnesota.  He has over 26 years of experience in the construction and installation of commercial water treatment systems all around North America.   He regularly presents at both local and national events hosted by ASPE, ASHRAE, ASHE, and other industry groups.  WCC has worked for over 50 years in the water treatment and conditioning industry, specializing in engineered systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial applications.  This includes pure water, water recycling, pathogen control, softening, and specialty filtration packages.  Brian is the proud father of 3 grown children.  He enjoys snowmobiling, running with his Siberian husky, and drinking good beer.

Chapter elections will be done at our May meeting for 2026-2028 Seattle Chapter Board Members.  We are always looking for members interested in being on the Board and I think we have a couple of seats available.  Please reach out to me or any other Seattle Chapter board member for more information.

Until Next Time…

VP Legislative Report

Hello all,

It was great to see a lot of you at the ASPE product show last month! Still no major updates on 2024 State building code adoption. The State Building Code Council (SBCC) website now lists May 3, 2027 as the projected effective date for the 2024 State building codes.

On the City of Seattle code front, Public Health-Seattle/King County (PHSKC) has proposed a handful of code amendments for the 2024 Seattle Plumbing Code and Seattle Fuel Gas Code. An open virtual meeting will be set up in early May (date TBD) to introduce the proposed amendments to any interested parties. PHSKC staff will be in attendance to answer any questions you may have about the proposals. The meeting date will be announced in the April edition of the PHSKC newsletter and will be shared in the May edition of this newsletter.

Until we meet again,

-DP

Women of ASPE Report

This past month, the Women of ASPE hosted a successful Happy Hour event, bringing together members of our community for connection, collaboration, and support. As part of the event, we assembled and donated self-care kits to the Jubilee Women’s Center, backing up our commitment to giving back and supporting women in need within our community. It was a meaningful evening that combined networking with purpose. Looking ahead, we are excited to continue creating opportunities that foster connection, empower women in our industry, and strengthen the Women of ASPE network through future events and initiatives.
